Ce rare fauteuil d'apparat en acajou à dossier plat présente une moulure d'encadrement surmontée d'un chapiteau à enroulement sculpté de palmettes et rinceaux. Les accotoirs en forme de console en partie postérieure sont sculptés de palmettes et feuillages et terminés par une partie sphérique supportée par deux pieds antérieurs en carquois sculptés de rosaces, feuilles d'eau et denticules. Les pieds postérieurs sont arqués. Réalisation de la maison Jacob-Desmalter, ce siège témoigne des liens anciens et forts existant entre l'ébéniste et le peintre. Georges Jacob, reçu Maître Ébéniste en 1765, fut l'un des principaux fournisseurs de la Couronne Royale. A ce titre, il fut inquiété pendant les troubles révolutionnaires. Dénoncé à plusieurs reprises au Comité de salut public, il bénéficia de la protection de personnes influentes, dont le peintre Jacques-Louis David avec lequel il collaborait à la réalisation de meubles sur les dessins de celui-ci. Véritable porte-parole du renouveau politique, David fut l'un des artistes les plus admirés, mais aussi les plus honnis de son temps pour ses engagements et ses choix esthétiques. A un nouvel Etat devait correspondre une nouvelle orientation artistique puisée essentiellement dans l'Antiquité. Ses recherches iconographiques furent mises en application dans les arts décoratifs par sa collaboration avec des menuisiers-ébénistes tels que Georges Jacob et notre siège en est l'illustration parfaite.
Sous le Premier Empire, Jacob-Desmalter devint menuisier-ébéniste-fabricant de meubles et bronzes de la Couronne Impériale. Pendant tout le règne de Napoléon 1er, il fut le principal fournisseur du Mobilier Impérial, distançant et de très loin tous ses contemporains. Il fit ainsi le Trône de Napoléon 1er (aujourd'hui conservé au Musée du Louvre). Il en fut également de même pour le commerce privé. Si l'on s'en réfère à l'étude d'Hector Lefuel, les ateliers des Jacob, qui comptèrent jusqu'à 332 artisans vers 1808, livrèrent pour près de dix millions de francs de meubles entre 1796 et 1813. La structure de notre modèle fut reprise par la maison Jacob-Desmalter pour satisfaire d'autres commandes. Ainsi, Le Maréchal Davout commanda une série de sièges pour garnir le Salon de son hôtel rue Saint -Dominique. Le dossier, les montants, l'assise ainsi que les pieds sont très proche de notre fauteuil. Il en va de même pour la suite de quatre fauteuils livrée en 1812 pour le grand cabinet de l'Empereur au palais des Tuileries.
Notre modèle proviendrait de l'appartement du peintre Jacques-Louis David situé au 4e étage de la Maison du Coq Saint-Honoré (n°9) dans lequel avaient été placés, lors de son départ en exil à la chute de l'Empire, différents meubles, tableaux, dessins, objets d'art et mobilier lui appartenant.

taxes indicated above, an additional import VAT will be charged (7% of the hammer
price, 19,6% for jewelry).
For any member of the EEC, non assembled stones are liable to VAT 19,6%.
The auctioneer is bound by the indications in the catalogue, modified only by
eventual announcements made at the time of the sale noted into the legal records
thereof. Prospective bidders should inspect the property before bidding to determine
its condition, size, and wether or not it has been repaired, restored or repainted.

The purchaser will be authorized to pay by the following means:
- in cash: up to €3,000, costs and taxes included, for French citizen, up to €15,000, costs and taxes included, for foreign citizen on presentation of their identity papers.
- By credit card: Visa, MasterCard or American Express (in case of payment by American Express, a 1,85% additional commission corresponding to cashing costs will be collected).

The lot will be delivered to the buyer only after the entire payment of the price, costs and taxes.

In the meantime Marc-Arthur Kohn Auction may invoice to the buyer the costs of storage of the lot, and if applicable the costs of handling and transport.

Should the buyer fail to pay the amount due, and after notice to pay has been given by Marc-Arthur Kohn Auction to the buyer without success, at the seller's request, the lot is re-offered for sale, under the French procedure known as "procédure de folle enchère".

If the seller does not make this request within a month from the date of the sale, the sale will be automatically cancelled, without prejudice to any damages owed by the defaulting buyer.

In addition, Marc-Arthur Kohn Auction reserves the right to claim against the defaulting buyer, at their option: - interest at the legal rate increased by five points, - the reimbursement of additional costs generated by the buyer's default, - the payment of the difference between the initial hammer price and the price of sale after "procédure de folle enchère" if it is inferior as well as the costs generated by the new auction.
