Besson studied under Decamps and Gigoux, his work mainly being remembered for its 18th Century references, in some cases being compared to Monticelli but nearly always veering more to Boucher. He exhibited at the Salon and decorated apartments at the Tuileries, to several hotels in Paris, Brussels and Cologne in this lavish style.
