Description

Fannie Saperstein (New York, 1896 - 1995), A pair of works, the first an oil on board, depicting a Bentonesque landscape with riverboats, signed lower right, measuring 16 x 20 inches, overall in the frame, 16.50 x 20.50 inches; the second an oil on Masonite, showing a fanciful slide scene, unsigned, measures 20 x 16 inches, overall in the frame, 21.50 x 17.50 inches. CONDITION: First good with some scuffs, second with scuffs and a broken upper right hand corner. Saperstein was a Jewish artist from New York who traveled extensively during her lifetime, including to Europe and the Middle East, where she painted a number of watercolors depicting the cities of Jerusalem and Tiberias. She also traveled to and depicted several locations in the northeast, including Durham, New Hampshire; Ogunquit, Maine; and the Finger Lakes region of New York State.
