Faiza Butt's recent work references the par-dokht application of paint in Indo-Persian miniature painting by using dots in a pointillist fashion to create an effect of moire patterns found in television and newspaper grains. She uses Pop imagery from media sources to comment on violence in contemporary society. Here depicting the Musician and Rap artist, Eminem, Butt notes, "Eminem started to interest me as role model during my days as a sixth form teacher at Newham College in Plaistow and at Broke house in Hackney. As a cliche of rebellion and working class youth anger had a bigger audience and following than assumed. It was great to see a covered and wrapped Asian girl tapping her toes to the rapping and swearing. Acts of rebellion against authority stay as a voice for working class migrant youth."
