NOTE

Thomas Robins was born in Bath in 1743, the son of the topographical landscape painter of the same name. His work is rare and until the discovery and sale of the albums from the Bath and West and Southern Counties Society at Sotheby's in 1967 and 1968 (of which the present watercolour and the following lot were a part) his work had been known only by an album of flower sketches and five finished drawings in the collection of Lord Fairhaven, now part of the Broughton Collection in the Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge
