CATALOGUE NOTE

Bendre was employed by the State of Kashmir in the late 1930's to promote tourism in the state. It is not clear if Bendre ever worked on a similar project for the state of Rajasthan but the current work dated 1944 may be related to an equivalent type of commission. It is known that Langhammer worked in Rajasthan in the 1940's and his paintings of Camels and elphants from this period show striking similarities to this current work.
