Although formally attributed to Nicolaes Berchem (1620-1683), and later to Abraham Begeyn (1637/8 - 1697), this painting clearly is a work by Jan van der Bent, as was first suggested in 1975 by Jacques Foucart. See for comparison a signed Landscape by Van der Bent in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lille (inv. no. 237) which has the same two female figures (see Lille, Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lille, Trésors des musées du Nord de la France, Peinture Hollandaise, vol.
