Notes

We are grateful to Fred Meijer of the RKD, The Hague, for proposing the attribution to Ernst Stuven, on the basis of photographs. He believes it to probably be a relatively early work, as it still shows a strong influence of Willem van Aelst (1627-1683), under whom he trained.
