Notes

Zola compared Duez to his friend Manet whilst referring to the artist's work shown at the Salon in 1874 entitled 'Splendeur et misère d'une courtisane'. His academic accuracy and use of a vivid impressionist palette were perfect foils. He was a co-founder of the National Society of Beaux Arts painting plein air scenes. A tryptic depicting St Cuthbert is conserved by the Musée d'Orsay.

No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium, which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
