Ernest Ange Duez 1843-1896 French Oil on canvas, painted circa 1885. 'An Elegant Woman seated at Villerville Beach' Signed lower right. 18 x 21 in. Framed. As depicted to the left of frame, in the only known photograph of Ernest Duez working in his Paris studio. A close friend and neighbour of John Singer Sargent in Paris, Duez is best known for his accomplished coastal views and promenading figures. Much of his time was spent in Villerville in Normandy.
