Description

Erik Johan Smith (American, b. 1893), " Seeley Watching The Card Game," signed by Smith at lower left and titled and inscribed further "Naval Hospital August 1917." The drawing depicts a WWI Soldier watching a card game while recovering at the Naval Hospital. Watercolor and pencil on paper, measures 9.75 x 6.75 inches to the matt opening, matted 14 x 11 inches, unframed. CONDITION: Good, some toning and surface grime. Smith studied in France, Italy and Sweden and was employed in the Works Progress Administration (WPA) art program. His work is found in many private collections, as well as New York's Whitney Museum and the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
