Eric Taylor was born in 1909 in London. He studied at the Royal college of Art under William Rothenstein. After various teaching posts he became head of design at Leeds College of Art from 1949-1956 becoming Principal between 1956-1969. He became Deputy Director of Leeds Polytechnic in 1969-1971. Taylor's work can be found in many private and public collections including the Imperial War Museum, British Museum, Victoria and Albert with the majority of his work in the University of Leeds Gallery collection. He was a versatile artist working as a painter, printmaker and sculptor.
