Eric Spencer Macky (New Zealand, 1880-1958)
A pair of Parisian river scenes, 1910, each signed and dated, oils on panel, 5 1/4" x 6 3/4", W. E. & J. J. Mark Fine Art Dealers labels verso (2).
Eric Macky was a painter, muralist, lecturer and educator born in Auckland, New Zealand. He studied in Australia before spending three years at the Academie Julian in Paris, studying with Jean-Paul Laurens. These pictures date from this period.
In 1911 Macky settled in the U.S. He taught at the University of California and the California School of Arts, where he was Dean and Professor of Painting and Drawing. He exhibited widely both in America and Europe, including the Salon des Artistes in Paris (1910); the Panama-Pacific International Exhibition, San Francisco (1915); San Francisco Museum of Art Inaugural exhibition and the Bohemian Club.
