Description

Emo Mazzetti (Italian, 1870 - 1955), "The Lagoon at Venice at Dawn," signed lower left, oil on mahogany panel, measures 6.50 x 10 inches, overall in the hand carved and gilded frame 11 x 14.50 inches. CONDITION: Good. Mazzetti trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice under Guglielmo Ciardi. In the early 1890s he stayed in Rome, where he exhibited lagoon landscapes with the Society of Amateurs and Cultors. He participated in several editions of the Venice Biennale, including those of 1899, 1901, 1903 and constantly from 1905 to 1914. In 1908 he was appointed Academician of Merit at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. A painter of essentially traditional character, with a rich brushstroke, he was devoted mainly to landscape painting. The "Nocturne pinewood," presented at the Venetian Biennial in 1909, was purchased by King Vittorio Emanuele III. His works are in the collections of the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Venice, at the Treviso Art Gallery, and at the Marangoni Museum in Udine.
