Notes

Jegede is a sculptor and painter who received his formal training first at the Yaba College of Art and Technology in Lagos, and then at the Hammersmith Arts College in London. He sees himself as an arts ambassador, and due to his broadly-based international approach, he has contributed greatly to an increased understanding of various African traditions. His work is based firmly upon the language and forms of Yoruba art and, yet, at the same time reflects a sensibility keenly aware of contemporary currents and western practices, the whole a conscious exploration of the complex interference patterns created by multi-cultural inheritance and the conflicts occurring between traditional and contemporary cultures.
