a large bronze cavalry group depicting Russian horsemen under attack, the naturalistic cast base signed Sta. Coloma, with brass plaque to the front inscribed EMMANUEL DE SANTA COLOMA/ ESCULTOR NACIDO EN BORDEAUX (GIRONDE)/ PARIS 1829/ FALLECIO EN 1886/ EXPUSO EN SALON ENTRE 1863-1870/ OBTUVO I MEDALLA EN 1864/ EL MUSEO DE BORDEAUX/ CONSERVA EL CABALLERO ESPAÑOL/ ESTATUA EN BRONCE, on a stepped ebonised plinth base, 88cm wide, 50.5cm deep, 57.5cm high (34.5" wide, 19.5" deep, 22.5" high)

Emmanuel de Santa Coloma was specialised in sculpture of horses and horse subjects. He exhibited in the Paris salons between 1863 and 1870. As underlined in the inscription a group entitled cavalier espagnol can be seen in the Museum of Bordeaux.
