EMLEN MCCONNELL (American, 1872-1947) Janice Meredith: A Story of the American Revolution, Collier's Weekly illustration, 1899 Oil on canvas 14 x 20 in. Not signed This piece is a story illustration for Janice Meredith: A Story of the American Revolution, written by Paul Leicester Ford. Emlen McConnell was a student of Howard Pyle and, along with Pyle himself and fellow students Anna Whelan Betts, Bertha Corson Day, James Bell Graff, and Ellen Bernard Thompson, contributed illustrations for the story, which was later published in book form as a two-volume set by Dodd, Mead, and Company.
