watercolor and gouache on paper, signed and dated "E. Hunten 71" lower left, Prussian Cuirassiers endure French fire during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. Presented behind a mat in a 20th century wooden frame.
SS 8.25 x 10 1/8 in.; DOA 15 x 18.5 in.


The prolific and talented Hunten was noted for his documentary eye-witness paintings of German military campaigns. Most of his available work is in oil, suggesting that this painting might be a study.

Scuff to the frame and aging to the mat; not examined out of the frame.
