Description

Emil Betzler(1892 Kamen/Westfalen - 1974 Frankfurt/Main). 5 Blätter: Figürliche Motive. 1912-18 Pen and India ink drawing in colours and pencil, pencil drawing and white chalk, as well as lithographs (3), one in colours. Partly signed and dated (2), partly inscribed (3). Each with inscription 17/1928. partly signed and dated on the stone (3). On various papers. cm ( in)Up to 39,7 x 30,6 cm (15,6 x 12 in), the full sheet. Provenienz: Private collection North Rhine-Westphalia. Born in Kamen, Westphalia, in 1892, Emil Betzler was a painter, draughtsman and printmaker. From 1916 he was an art teacher and instructor at the Hochschule für Erziehung [Teacher Training College] in Frankfurt am Main. Betzler knew many of the famous writers and artists of his day, including Joachim Ringelnatz and Max Beckmann, whose influence is noticeable in Betzler's work. However, Expressionism, which was just emerging at the time, exerted the strongest influence on Betzler. His main theme was relationships between people in all possible variations. [NB] Good overall impression. One partly minimally bumped on the corners, lower right corner with minor crease marks. One with soft crease and squeeze marks in the margins respectively, a few tiny splits and two holes. Lithographs partially with soft crease marks, two with horizontal folds, one with a small tear, one with a tiny paper loss in the lower left corner.
