Eloise Polk McGill studied at the Art Students League under Frank Vincent DuMond, in Paris under Robert Reid, and under William Merritt Chase in New York.

This painting is titled Apres L'Hermitte. This refers to Leon Augustine L'Hermitte, a very popular French Realist painter of the nineteenth century. This painting is a reinterpretation of L'Hermitte's painting Christ with the Meek, of which it is a variation rather than a copy. It is framed in a massive hand-made frame.

Original condition. Scattered losses. The painting would benefit from relining and cleaning. Period frame in excellent condition.
