Lady Margaret Rachel Scott was born in April 1874, the fourth child of the 3rd Earl of Eldon. She married The Hon. Frederick Hamilton-Russell, 3rd son of the 8th Viscount Boyne, in April 1897, the same month this picture was painted.
In 1894 The Ladies Golf Union of Great Britain conducted the first British Ladies Golf Championship. Lady Margaret won the first three competitions.
