Autumn; Winter signed in Cyrillic 'Eliz Bem' (lower left), entitled in Russian (upper right) and inscribed 'Autumn comes, Wrap up warmly' and 'To be a guest is nice, to go home is better' (lower right) watercolour on paper, the latter heightened with white 31/2 x 53/8in. (9 x 13.7cm.) (2) NOTES Designs for post-cards, E.M. Bem studied under I.N. Kramskoi, and concentrated on decorative illustrations for children's books, journals and literary works. She also designed decorations on glass.
