FIVE SMALL ARCHAISTIC JADE ANIMAL CARVINGS

Late Qing Dynasty

The elephant's head turns back facing its left hind foot, the gray stone tinted black on the top, perforated horizontally for stringing; the crouching hound with its head turning right facing the eagle on its back, the green stone stained brown and black; the boy holding a large drum at his chest, the mottled green stone stained black; the monkey simply carved in a seated position, the top of the head stained black; the couching
qilin with a horn behind the ears, looking to its left, the bushy tail curled on top of the rump, the yellow stone tinted russet-brown in areas. (5)


Elephant: 15/16in (2.4cm) long;
Hound: 1 5/8in (4.1cm) long;
Monkey: 1 3/8in (3.5cm) high;
Boy: 1 1/8in (2.9cm) high;
Qilin: 1 7/16in (3.7 cm) long
