Lot 163: Eladio Gonzalez Cuban Abstract Oil Canvas Wall Mural

Eladio Gonzalez (Cuban, 1937- ), abstract figural composition (1971), oil on canvas, 74" x 50 1/2", signed and dated lower right. Framed, in excellent condition. A Cuban-born painter and sculptor, Gonzalez attended the Tarasco Fine Arts School (Mantanzas) in 1956 and relocated to Chicago in 1968 where he resides today. His colorful abstracts draw on old-world mythology to create a mood described as "surrealism tinged with the supernatural." In 1978, he was part of the "Hispanic American Artists of the U.S.A. at the Organization of American States, and a year later he received the CINTAS Fellowship in Sculpture. His art has been exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Institute of Contemporary Art, and many private galleries in this country and abroad. Reportedly, a book on all his works is to be published in Miami, Florida.
