(Atlas volume: flyleaves loose, first and third fold-out explanation text-leaves creased at fore-edge, another loose and a few others with light dog-earing, photogravure plates with light marginal browning, photogravure 7 loose with edges lightly frayed and light vertical creasing to central fold. LIMITED EDITION, ONE OF 500 SETS OF THE FIRST EDITION of one of the earliest complete monographs on a modern building. It has served as the standard for all subsequent studies on the architecture of 19th-century metal structures. RARE: this superb work, published at the author's expense, was never issued commercially but given by Eiffel to public libraries, universities, French and foreign scientific societies, and important contemporaries.
