Efrat Shvily lives and works in Tel Aviv. Anonymous deserted buildings have dominated her photographic work since she began to capture Israel's architecture in her images in the early 1990s. The buildings so unconnected to their surroundings point at the problematic relationship between the Israelis and their land.In 2003, in the framework of the exhibition Based Upon TRUE STORIES, she presented at Witte de With the two series of photographs: New Homes in Israel and the Occupied Territories and Palestinian Cabinet Ministers. The same year she exhibited at the 50th International Venice Biennial and at the 8th International Istanbul Biennial. Other selected group exhibitions include Eventually we'll die: young art in Israel of the Nineties, Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art, Herzeliyya, Israel (2008); As is, Museo Vittoriano, Rome (2008); History started playing with my life, Digital Art Lab, London (2007); and In Search for Lost Time, Sommer Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv (2006).
