Notes

'My work is concerned with intention and chance. I choose processes that are simple and repetitious so as to allow the interplay of formal and contingent elements'.
Edwina Leapman, 1979.

Red Emerging exemplifies the dominant 'simple and repetitious' process which characterises Leapman's recent work - that of lines of paint drawn across the canvas from left to right. These works are subtle but intense, resonating with energy through the tension of colour. Leapman studied at the Slade School of Fine Art from 1951-57. She has exhibited internationally since 1974 and has twice won the Arts Council Award. Her works are held in numerous public collections and in London, these include the collections of the Tate Gallery, the Arts Council and the Contemporary Art Society.
