Edwin Headley Holgate 1892 - 1977 Canadian oil on panel Creek Near Morin Heights 8 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches 21.6 x 26.7 centimeters initialed and on verso signed twice and dated October 1961 Provenance:Galerie Walter Klinkhoff Inc., Montreal Acquired on October 19, 1965 for $850 by Edgar and Dorothy Davidson, Montreal and then moving to Ottawa in 1972 During World War II, Edwin Holgate was an official war artist for the Canadian Government. Rather than returning to the hustle and bustle of the city following the war, Holgate relocated to Morin Heights, a quaint area northwest of Montreal. The landscape of the enchanting Laurentians provided a wide breadth of subject matter for Holgate, as is illustrated in this charming sketch.
