A double portrait of a two ladies, small full-length, one in traditional Albano dress, the other in traditional Nettuno dress, in the artist's studio signed, inscribed and dated 'These studies are made from two of/the models of Rome the first from the/Atalana, the second is a portrait of a/daughter of the notorious brigand leader/Bar(?)bone & is a curious example of the/face & figure which characterize the true/popolo Romano. Costume 1st Albano 2nd Nettino/E.V.Rippingalle/Lon: July 1848' (on a fragment of canvas attached to the reverse) oil on canvas 221/4 x 18 in. (56.5 x 45.7 cm.).
