Edward Ted" Dicks" (1928-2012) "OLD TIME MUSICIAN" "signed and dated '06; signed, inscribed with title and dated '06 verso acrylic on board 39 x 22cms; 15 1/2 x 8 1/2in. Ted Dicks (1928-2012) attended Hornsey School "Of Art, but his studies were interrupted by National Service in the RAF during which time he developed a talent for music playing the piano in the Officer's "Mess. After completing his RAF service, he won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art graduating in 1954. Although he no former "musical training, he had been writing music throughout his college years and he began composing for radio and television whilst also writing radio plays and television scripts. His breakthrough came with the revue Look Who's "Here!, which opened in the West End in 1960. Dicks pursued a successful career as a writer and composer with hits including The Hole in the "Ground and Right Said Fred, recorded by Bernard Cribbins (1962) and had songs recorded by artists "including Topol, Jim Dale and Joan Sims, Matt Munro, Val Doonican and Petula Clark. Throughout his life he maintained his interest in painting.
