Sketchbook c.1830, principally containing topographical views of Edinburgh in watercolour (7 sheets: 1 single and 3 double), another similar double page view, probably of Bath, and other studies in watercolour and pencil, mostly Essex and Isle of Wight. (c.40 leaves and a single smaller sheet). 25 x 38.5cm (each leaf)

Provenance : The artist's family, and by descent.

Note : Brenton was a naval officer and naval historian, made Lieutenant in 1795. Edinburgh views comprise cityscape from Castle looking east, city from Calton Hill looking west, the Forth from Calton Hill and another looking towards North Berwick from Calton Hill.
