'Formal concerns are central in Harper's paintings, where composition and colour are critical. His images of refuse sacks, boxes and rubbish - haphazard gatherings of soon to be disposed of stuff - are pictured as aesthetically pleasing street assemblages. These seductive surfaces also relate to questions of commodity, consumerism and art, applying a slick sheen over the otherwise decaying corners of our urban experience' (see Exhibition catalogue, Bearspace Gallery, London, 2006). Harper's solo exhibition venues include the Southampton City Art Gallery.
