The destruction of the pirate squadron in Bias Bay, China, 1 s t October, 1849; and The attack on the pirate fleet of Shap-'ng-tsai in the Tonquin River, 21 s t October, 1849 both signed 'E H Cree' (lower left) pencil and watercolour 101/2 x 16in. (26.6 x 40.6cm.) a pair (2) LITERATURE The Cree Journals, published 1981, illustrated on front cover and p.198/199. NOTES Edward H. Cree was a Surgeon, Royal Navy, 1837-61 and served off China during the first Opium War of 1839-42. He also served off the China coast pursuing pirates during the late 1840's. There is a similar version of the former of these watercolours in the collection of the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich. This lot is sold with a copy of The Cree Journals, edited by Michael Levien, published 1981.
