Lot 618: Edward Arnold (c.1825-1866)

Although little information is available on this vessel, it has been confirmed that she was built at Bath, Maine, in 1851 and emanated from the largest and most productive of the many yards on the Kennebec River, namely Sewall's (actually operating as Clark & Sewall at the time of her launching). Measured at 890 tons, constructed of wood throughout and sporting a full ship rig, she was probably built as a speculation prior to being purchased by the Hurlbut Line of New York for their regular New York to Antwerp service during which period she was commanded by Captain Anthony Snow.
