Edmund Reitter (1904-2007)

Edmund Reitter studied in the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Technology in Pressburg and then attended the Academies in Munich and Vienna. The tradition of Pressburg sculptors, including Viktor Tilgner, Jan Fadrusz and Alois Riegele, influenced his work deeply. In Vienna, Reitter met Fritz Wotruba and was his master student. Not only formal, but also thematically his works are close to Wotruba, and the human being became his favorite subject matter. Moreover, Reitter dealt with various 20th artistic movements and was inspired by Expressionism, Cubism and abstraction. (hth)
