NOTE

In the far distance lies Temple House, in Berkshire, near Marlow, designed by William Wyatt in the late eighteenth century for Thomas Williams. A prominent member of British society, Wililams owned the Temple Mills Copperworks near Marlow and was MP for Great Marlow. William's grandson was called Thomas Peers Williams (1795-1875) and it is believed that he is the rider shown here with his hounds. Like his father, Peers Williams was MP for Great Marlow from 1832 to 1865 and was also Lieutenant Colonel of the Royal Anglesey Militia. Sadly, Temple House later burned to the ground giving this work extra poignancy as a depiction of the sporting life surrounding England's great estates.
