Description

A generously sized portrait portraying Meta Levey by artist Edmund Brucker (1912-1999). An active portrait artist, Brucker also spent nearly 30 years as a professor at John Herron School of Art in Indianapolis. Mrs. Levey’s portrait is presented in an ornate gold gilt wooden frame and is signed “E.Brucker 1954” to the upper right-hand corner. Included with the painting is an original photograph in which the painting was created from, an original letter by a family member describing Mrs. Levey’s likeness, a newspaper clipping, and more original documents. The painting belonged to the estate of Levey Brothers Company businessman, Louis H. Levey. Mr. Levey died in 1934 and the painting was acquired by the Indianapolis Medical Society (est. 1848) after the death of Mrs. Meta Levey in 1959.
