Edith Fairfax Davenport (American/Florida, 1880-1957), "New Orleans Staircase", 1923, oil on canvas, signed, inscribed, and dated lower left, 21-1/4" x 14". Framed. Provenance: Private Collection, New Orleans. Edith Fairfax Davenoprt was born in Kansas City, but spent most of her career in Florida where she actively exhibited and was a member of various art organizations. She studied at the Academie Julian in Paris and is said to have been the first American woman officially admitted to the Ecole des Beaux Arts.
