Description

Edgar Otis Miner (American, 1915-2003), "Barn Near North Pownal, Vermont, July 1935," oil on board, signed lower left and dated 1935 and inscribed, dated and titled on the verso, measures 18 x 20 unframed, measures overall in the frame 22 x 24 inches. CONDITION: Good, could use a light cleaning. A landscape painter, Miner painted all over New England, Scotland, England, Holland and Jamaica. He was born in New London, Connecticut in 1915 and attended the Guy Wiggins Art School, Essex, Connecticut from 1935 to 1940, as well as the National Academy in New York City from 1938 to 1940. He served in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1945, and spent three years in the Pacific. He first exhibited at the Lyme Art Association in 1947 and became a member of the organization in 1949. Over the years he served on all committees and served as treasurer from 1953 to 1970. Pownal is the southwesternmost town in Vermont; it is bordered by Williamstown, Massachusetts, to the south and Petersburgh, New York, to the west. Pownal also borders the towns of Stamford to the east, Woodford to the northeast, and Bennington to the north.
