* Eden (William, 1849-1915). "Cadogan Place", black crayon and watercolour, signed in lower left-hand corner, 21.1 x 28.4cm (8.25 x 11.25ins), mounted, framed and glazed, titled in pencil on reverse. A distinguished watercolourist who travelled extensively in Egypt, India, Japan and America. Sir William Eden exhibited at the Paris Salon, and at the Goupil Galleries, New English Art Club and the New Watercolour Society (of which he became President) in London. Following a provocation by the irascible Whistler, Eden famously became involved in a court case described in the latter's 'The Baronet and the Butterfly'. (1)
