Description

1522. ANTON DVORAK (1841 - 1904) Czech composer whose influences include Brahms, Wagner and folk music from his native land. Dvorak composed nine symphonies, two piano duets called Slavonic Dances, operas chamber music, cantatas, and masses. From 1892-1895 Dvorak served as Director of the National Conservatory in New York where he composed his most famous work, his Symphony No.9 "From the New World". Superb A.M.Q.S. on an 8vo. sheet, Sydenham, [n.d.]. At top, Dvorak practices his English: "How do you do? Well Antonin Dvorak All right" beneath which he pens four bars of music with the notations "Sinfonie in g major" and "Trumpets". Deeply set in a beautiful double mat of beige cloth and maroon velvet with a color reproduction of a portrait of Dvorak, all presented within a very ornate gilt cherry wood frame.
