Item Overview

Description

Dorothy E. Vicaji (British . died 1945) oil on canvas, oval portrait of "Princess Mary?" in carved wood frame, canvas size 32"x25" Dorthy Vicaji, painter to the British Royal Family during the 1920's, when this work was created. The painting was purchased from The Shiprock Kelley Estate Sale, several years ago in Miami, in which the contents of the Duke and Duchesses of Windsor's holiday estate in the Bahamas (or Bermuda? ) were auctioned. The painting is accompanied by approximately 7 Black and White photographs of the Royal Family entourage on holiday in the islands, perhaps 2 photos with the Duke and Duchesses of Windsor (Wallis Simpson), to whom this painting is actually attributed to as former owner, as provenance. There is no documentation to accompany the painting. Research suggests that this may be a portrait of Princess Mary, Princess Royale and Countess of Harewood. She would have been the daughter of Prince George, Duke of York, later George V. He was the oldest surviving son of Edward VII and of Mary of Treck.
