Lot 1205: Doris Caesar Monumental Female Nude Bronze

Doris Caesar (American, 1892-1971), monumental female nude bronze. Incised signature on base; stamped MODERN ART/FDRY/N.Y. on back side of base. Overall: 50 1/2"H. Caesar was born in Brooklyn and studied drawing and sculpture in the USA and Europe. She worked for five years in Archipenko's studio and was later influenced by German sculptors Ernst Barlach and Rudolf Belling. After World War II she concentrated almost exclusively on the female nude.
