A monk grasping hot coals before a cleric with inscription 'Passignani' and numbering '38' black chalk, pen and brown ink, brown wash, squared in black chalk, watermark encircled fleur-de-lys 223 x 171 mm. PROVENANCE The mounter's mark F. Renaud (L. 1042). Van de Wissingen Collection, The Hague, 1874, according to an inscription on the backing. NOTES Two drawings of the same series are in the Horne Foundation, Florence and formerly with L. Fr”lich (photographs at the Witt Library). Both are squared and the second bears a similar inscription and numbering as the present sheet.
