Description

Domenico Beccafumi (1486-1551) An Apostle (B.15) chiaroscuro woodcut printed from three blocks in brown and two shades of mushroom, circa 1545-50, watermark Fleur-de-Lys in Circle with a Star above (not in Briquet), a fine, even impression of this extremely rare print, the sheet arched on top and trimmed fractionally into the figure's hair, trimmed to or fractionally into the subject elsewhere, two skilfully made-up paper losses at the lower right and left sheet corners, a few long, very skilfully repaired tears in the lower subject and along a horizontal central fold S. 405 x 208 mm.
