Lot 566: Disney: Fantasia

A fantastic concept painting by James Bodrero for the 1940 Disney classic Fantasia, graphite and watercolor on 12 field animation paper. Design for the Dance of the Hours portion of the film shows a crocodile in the foreground with Hyacinth Hippo lying on a cushion in the background. Crocodile measures 6.25 x 4.5 and the hippo measures 2.25 x 1.5. Sheets bears a WDP stamp and several animator's notations. In fine condition, with small tack holes to each corner. Bodrero worked as a character designer for two different segments of the film, and also worked on Dumbo, Saludos Amigos, and The Three Caballeros during his stint at Disney Studios. A vibrant and colorful design which inspired the beautifully animated dance scene.
