Dickhoff, J.F. (1911-1942). (Magician in his laboratory). Drawing, pen and ink and watercolour, varnished, 47,4x33,7 cm., signed "Jan Dickhoff" and "'36" in pen, tipped onto mount w. upper corners. - Part of varnish w. craquelé. = Haks/ Maris p.73: "Born in Surabaja, 18 December 1911. The artist came to the Netherlands to become a pupil of the academy of arts in The Hague. He returned to Indonesia in 1935. Illustrator, draughtsman and watercolourist in a realistic style, tending towards symbolism. (...) During World War II he became a prisoner of war of the Japanese and was sent to a camp in Burma.
