Dhruvi Acharya's work embodies "the psychological and emotional aspects of an urban woman's life in a world teeming with discord, violence and pollution." (Artist Statement, www.dhruvi.com/statement)
In this work, the artist uses color and comic book imagery to compress time and space on the canvas, rendering a woman's path through three distinct periods in her life. As the time periods - past, present, and future - seamlessly meld into each other, the urban woman is obligated to assume a range of roles and responsibilities. The artist cites Indian miniatures, flat Japanese painting, and comics as inspiration and manages to juxtapose disparate visual elements from all these forms to create a signature style.
