Provenance:
Private UK collection.

Illustrated:
Dhruva Mistry, Sculptures and Drawings, Kettle's Yard Gallery, Cambridge, p.29.

'The fire Guardian (Reguarding Guardian 1), 1985 is also a warring god and is connected with rainfall and hence the thunderstorm. The fiery temperament and golden pelt of the lion is suggested by the burnished reds of the body, and one blue wing depicts the watery aspect of the god. A connonball symbolising the thunderbolt stands for war, and also for life, since it represents an aggressive necessary to preserve oneself, and therefore one's constant struggle for survival.'

Taken from Dhruva Mistry, Sculptures and Drawings, Kettle's Yard Gallery, Cambridge, p.22.
