In 1954, Painters Eleven had their first show - William Ronald had his first one-man show a little later. Burton and fellow artist Gordon Rayner were so excited, Burton recalled Rayner and I went back to our studio that Sunday, painted our first non-objective abstract painting and vowed never to paint representationally again.
